All the December FUN!

December is our month of parties! With having three kids now, and my goal to be fully present and enjoy the people I am with, I didn't take many pictures (or any!) at most of these parties!

We had a fun ward party and parties with both the Smith and White extended families. We had our traditional party with our BYU friends down at Virgin's new home and it was just lovely. Wonderful food and even better company. The only picture I have is of the three babies. Sophie is 6 months older than Brooks and Davis, who are two weeks apart. Davis is a good 10 pounds smaller than Brooks!

We did our traditional service activities each day during December. We made lots of Christmas treats to deliver to various people. The boys took them to the police and fire station, to a few different widows and widowers, the mailman, primary and school teachers, and neighbors. We made dinner for a family with a new baby and fed the missionaries. We opened doors for people, gave lots of hugs and back rubs, made each other's beds, sent Christmas cards to missionaries, focused on kind words and donated food to the food bank. I love doing this. Some days it goes better than others, but I feel like it puts such a good focus on service and love during the month. It helps us be a little less selfish and I love seeing the boy's enthusiasm for serving others, and learning that it can be fun!

Davis turned 9 months old! He's 17 pounds 2 oz (10th percentile) and 26 inches (not even on the chart) and super healthy and just perfect and darling! He loved ripping the paper in the doctors office while we waited. He's been hit or miss on sleep, spent most of December cutting his two bottom teeth (that finally came through on Christmas Eve) and has been making our spirits bright every day since he was born! We reminisced a lot all month long about what a wonderful, perfect addition Davis is to our family and how thankful we are to have him with us this Christmas.

We spent a lovely evening at Christmas Village with the Smith family! We all love that place. The boys love seeing every little house and it snowed that night, which made it extra magical.

Both boys had darling Christmas programs at school this month! I've loved hearing all their cute songs all month long. At Chase's program, he got chosen to lead his class in their cute poem about Christmas surprises. Davis watched both programs like a perfect little brother- entranced and entertained the whole time. Ben and I gushed in the audience both times at how cute and darling our boys are!

We had cookie wars with the Smith family. It was so fun! We had teams and each team picked a theme. We had Santa's workshop (Heidi, Will, Nora and Nana), Christmas Lights (Chase, Ben, Papa and Halie) and 12 days of Christmas (Me, Katie, Hudson and Nate). It was a blast, and Santa's workshop clearly won, although I think we were all impressed with the creativity all around. Any team that has Heidi clearly has a solid advantage :)

One of my parent's Christmas surprises for the kids was a ride on the Polar Express (Heber Creeper)! They were so excited and had so much fun. Chase said his favorite part was learning about the history of the train and Hudson's was the long conversation he had with an elf. Sounds about right! It was a magical afternoon for them!

Then it was finally Christmas! Christmas Eve fell on Sunday, which was just lovely. We have 1:00 church, so we spent a relaxing morning at home watching Christmas movies together. We loved attending church and listening to the beautiful music and messages about Christ.
Then it was time for our traditional Smith family party! We played minute-to-win-it (so hilarious!) and charades (equally funny) and had a beautiful candlelight dinner. My boys talk about this dinner all year and think that eating my candlelight is the best. I have to agree. I look forward to it all year. We did the nativity with puppets and then did our gift exchange. The boys were completely spoiled by their cousins, grandparents and aunt Heidi. I seriously wondered why we even bothered to buy them Christmas presents! Heidi got them watches and they were a huge hit. Chase has been telling us what time it is every five minutes and has thanked Heidi profusely for them. They also got some darling books, cute outfits and some fun games!

We packed up to head home and it was snowing! We haven't had much snow, so seeing beautiful snowfall on Christmas Eve was just magical! To make things even better, we got home and started getting the boys towards bed. Chase stopped to write Santa a note. I was trying to rush him to bed, but once I saw the note, my heart melted. Hudson is always kind of a mischievous and temper-prone child (along with a LOT of sweetness and darling, good characteristics too). Hudson had been threatened repeatedly that he could be on the naughty list. Chase's note read "Dear Santa. I know Hudson has been hitting, kicking and punching. But mostly he's been good. love, Chase A. Hugo" and then he drew a picture of our house. How sweet is that! He was looking out for his little brother!

Luckily we had all the kids in bed, fast asleep by like 9:30 and Ben and I were in bed by 10:30! It was a peaceful, beautiful Christmas Eve! Everyone slept through the night (a rarity in our house in 2017, thanks mostly to Davis), but they were up early (again, thank you Davis). We had a lovely morning opening presents and the boys were delighted with every single thing they opened! I made them new aprons, which they loved, and shutterfly books of their toddler years (since they love their baby books so much), which were a hit. Of course, they were delighted that Santa delivered what they'd hoped for and then we spent all day long playing our new games, assembling legos (Chase's little heart could have burst with happiness) and relaxing.

We finished the day up at my parents house with a delicious turkey dinner and a rousing round of trivial pursuit (in which the girls team won!). It was really a perfect, lovely Christmas!

Kick-Off to Christmas!

It's the most wonderful time of the year! We love this season. Something about having a baby in the house again at Christmas has made it even more magical this year. Right after Thanksgiving we started our Christmas celebrations. We got the house decorated and having been playing Christmas music all day. On Black Friday we did our traditional "Kick-off to Christmas" party to start out the season, a much anticipated Hugo Family tradition. We decorated the tree, which I love doing so much. The boys love doing it, love reminiscing with each ornament they put on. They love putting up all my old ornaments as well, asking me when and where I got every single one of them. So many memories! While we were decorating the tree, I heard Chase say to no one in particular, "This just makes me SO HAPPY!"

While we were decorating, Ben was holding Davis while they watched us. When Davis got a little restless, I handed him a shiny, red, ball ornament. His little eyes got so wide and his mouth broke into the biggest, cutest, toothless grin. He loved holding that little ball (and dropping it, and watching it hit the floor again and again). He stayed totally entranced by it!

After decorating the tree the boys got to open their Christmas jammies! They look so cute all matching. Davis was actually super thrilled when I sat him down with the boys to take this picture, he loves being included in things! Then we cuddled up, ate leftover Thanksgiving pie, and watched the Muppet Christmas Carol, a favorite Christmas movie of ours. The boys loved it and Hudson reenacted his favorite scenes over and over again.

The next night we headed to temple square to see the lights. Oh my gosh, they are so beautiful! I love this every year. It was a nice warm night, which was great to not need to bundle everyone up so much. It also meant that it was super crowded- about 1 million other people had our same idea. Nonetheless, it was beautiful and awesome.

We took the boys to see Santa at Station Park, like we always do. I love this Santa. He is so patient and kind with the boys, takes time to talk with them, and makes the experience just magical. Hudson walked right in and asked Santa, "Do you sometimes say "ho! ho! ho!"? When Santa replied that he did, Hudson smiled and gave him a big thumbs up. Like saying, YES, he IS the REAL Santa!

Chase asked for "coast guard" legos. Santa said he'd bring them only if Chase promises to clean them up when he's done playing. He went on to explain how it hurts to step on legos, and how the elves in the lego department wear special shoes for that reason!
Hudson asked for an Air Patroller, which is the plane from Paw Patrol. He's wanted it for like 11 months.
Davis was obviously a little skeptical and possibly confused by the experience, but he did sit there while I snapped a picture.

It was a great start to December!

Our Month of Gratitude

November is always such a beautiful month! I love thinking of our blessings all month long. We put up our Thankful tree and Ben and I had a few discussions about spending the month being present, enjoying the kids, counting our blessings and not stressing the small stuff. It was a good reminder for me mentally and I can say I really just ENJOYED my life and my kids this month and felt so very blessed every single day.

This is how family prayer ends most nights. Everyone just piles on dad.
The first Saturday of the month we had little dates with our kids. Chase earned a free personal pizza from Pizza Hut for making his reading goal in October, so Ben took him to cash that in and sent me this adorable picture. I took Hudson to Pizza Pie Cafe and failed to take any pictures, but I did enjoy listening to him talk the whole time. In my defense, we had Davis with us.
A neighbor gave us Pie Face. Oh man, the boys LOVE this game. It made another appearance later in the month. The boys love getting pied, and love when anyone else does too. They happily help the person clean their face and lots of whipped cream is eaten in the process.
We raked leaves and jumped in them. I tried to set Davis in with the boys for a photo, but he did not see the magic in the activity. This is seriously one of Chase's very favorite things to do in the fall. Thank goodness we had a lot of trees! Once we were done, the boys helped me load all the leaves into the trash can!
We spent one gloriously warm afternoon at the park. Chase took Davis down the slide again and again and Davis loved it. I love seeing this boy in his role as big brother!
I finally took these pictures down like 11 days after Halloween. I loved the way they decorated the doors during Halloween. All of these were their own ideas and I just loved what they came up with. It was very festive!
In my spirit of Thanksgiving, I took a little more time during my day to just love on my sweet kids. I really love these little guys. They are adorable, hilarious and full of so much love!
Davis had a cold and a really fussy patch there for awhile, so he went back into the ergo just like his newborn days! I made several dinners like this! Ben is working later hours these days and is almost never home before 7:00. I was spoiled before having an extra adult around during dinner prep!
I love the way Chase is learning to write and spell. Some of these things he brought home were so darling!
And here is the photographic evidence of us "ete[ing] at Nanu's and popu's", "at the sqaur taibll", in the white room. We did an early Thanksgiving dinner with the whole family and it was super delicious. We didn't remember to bring any baby food for Davis, and he happily feasted on squash, stuffing and rolls!

While Heidi was in town, Jana was also in town for a day! So we all got together and it was fabulous. I love these sisters of mine so much!
We made three pies for our Thanksgiving dinner. We did a pumpkin pie, lemon sour cream pie and an apple pie. Clearly, Chase knew exactly how to make the pumpkin pie! The boys helped me (for awhile) and so did my mom and Heid, and they all turned out so good!
We went up to visit my Grandma one morning right before Thanksgiving. I really should get there more often, it always makes Grandma so happy, especially to see this baby! He smiled and smiled for her (Hudson was kind of stinker while we were there- a theme for him that particular week)
We had a game night with the whole family right before Thanksgiving. We brought pie face and lots of laughter and enthusiasm ensued. We also played a few other games. Chase is really into games these days- he loves them and can't get enough.
Our Thankful Tree. Chase really got it this year. He came up with great things he was thankful for, and I love his spelling so much! He got really sick one day and missed school, so we carefully came up for things he could be thankful for even while he was sick, like medicine and his pillow. I wanted to take a picture and Hudson was so mad he didn't get to hold Davis, so we had to take another shot. Speaking of Davis, he was one of the first things we put on the tree. We are all SO THANKFUL for Davis this year. This little guy has brought so much joy and happiness to our home and we all love him so much. Almost every day when I would ask Hudson what he wanted to put on the tree he'd say "Davis".

We started off Thanksgiving morning with a bike ride/run/walk on this beautiful trail! It was beautiful weather, like 60 degrees and it was great company and a fun time!

Then we went home and got working on our dinner! For Thanksgiving day we had my parents and Heidi over to our house. We loved being able to host! We made the turkey, green beans, sweet potato casserole, and previously mentioned pies. My mom brought stuffing, salad and homemade rolls. It was a super delicious feast! We played a hilarious game of Clue in between dinner and dessert and there was some football watching in there as well.
Oh Hudson- like I said, he was kind of a stinker this week. Stinker or not, we are still all thankful for this crazy kid!

Thanksgiving morning I woke up with my heart so full of gratitude and my eyes brimmed with happy tears. I'm so thankful for the life I have. I'm so thankful for my four guys who are all I ever dreamed of and have made me so happy. I am so thankful we are healthy and live in such a wonderful, safe, happy home. I was thankful we got to have extended family together for the holiday. My life is so full!
