Update on the kids

Chase at 11:
  • He’s finishing up 5th grade this week. He’s deemed it the “BEST YEAR EVER”! It really has been. He’s got the best teacher (Mrs. Flynn). They got to do the Veterans Program, BizTown field trip, a bunch of other fun field trips, economics fair, and so many more fun things. 5th grade is awesome!
  • He’s so excited it’s finally baseball season. Ben is coaching Chase’s team this year. Games start next week. Chase loves any chance he gets to play catch with his dad.
  • He’s had some weird friend drama this year, which has lead him to branch out and make some new friends and strengthen some friendships he hadn’t spent as much time on before. It’s led him to grow a friendship with some great boys!
  • Lately his favorite part of Saturdays is riding bikes with his friends. And by this I mean like 4 hour bike rides where they ride all over town and stop at Wendy’s or Pace’s for milk shakes and chicken nuggets, swing by the pond and try fishing, stop at fun hills to ride down, etc. It makes me a little nervous, but ultimately I think it’s really good for them. He’s loving the independence and having so much fun.
  • Since we got him the kindle for Christmas he’s read so many books I couldn’t even count. If I had to guess, probably at least 50 books!

Hudson at 9 years:
  • He’s finishing up 3rd grade this week. He’s had such a great year. I helped in his class every week helping with math facts. Hudson was the first kid in the whole class to pass off all his math facts. He was a little teary last week telling me he doesn’t want the year to be over.
  • He’s got his yellow-strip belt in karate. He is really loving karate. He  practices in the  backyard and loves showing us his stuff.
  • He’s made so many friends in his class this year. His BFF Richie is in a different class, but they meet up at school early every Friday for breakfast, which I think is the cutest thing ever. Also, I found out halfway through the school year that when my boys get to school a little early, he always goes to the cafeteria to scope out the breakfast and if it looks good he gets a second breakfast! (It’s free this year due to government funding for free breakfast/lunches for everyone).
  • He’s so obsessed with cars right now. He’s constantly talking about different cars and their unique features and what models he likes the best. I honestly have no idea if he’s making it up or not! He also has to point out every tesla we see- so the extent that sometimes Lila randomly blurts out “Tesla!” While we are driving!

Davis at 5:
  • He started T-ball and it is hilarious! He insists on batting left handed (we are fairly sure he’s right handed). He cries when he doesn’t get the ball.  When he plays a base position he will literally kick the runner off the base so he can stand on it. And when he runs the bases he makes sound effects with his mouth.
  • He finished up preschool which was so fun for him. He loved his “preschool girls”. He’s so excited for kindergarten he can hardly stand it. Hopefully it lives up to the hype.
  • He’s still frequently Buddy the Dog, or Miles. I find him all the time making sound effects while he just moves in normal life and I wonder what in the world he is thinking! He’s been a transformer a lot lately.
  • He’s just the sweetest child and makes us laugh every day. I’m a little sad to send him to kindergarten because I just generally love having him around.
  • He’s becoming such a good little buddy for Lila. Those two fight and play and interact all day long and it’s sweet and hilarious and annoying sometimes. Also- Davis has been experimenting with new words like “annoying” “frustrating” “Bis-gusting”

Lila at 2:
  • She’s talking up a storm! She’s saying new words every day and it’s so darling. She pretends to talk on the phone all the time, mostly to Heidi and really sounds like she’s having a conversation. We even spotted her talking on the phone and then motioning another child the “one minute” sign when he tried to talk to her mid-conversation!
  • She’s been sleeping in the pack n play next to her bed for a month now. Her choice. She even asks for it “my pat-n-play!”
  • She loves Daniel Tiger and Cocomelon. She loves to play with stuffed animals, but especially her bunnies and “Punny” Penelope. She loves to cook in her kitchen. She loves to pretend to clean. I’ll be cleaning a room and she runs for her tiny little mop and broom and immediately starts helping.
  • She declares “I come too” anytime anyone is going anywhere. Girl has some serious FOMO.
  • She loves to put on my makeup while I do her hair. It ends up with lipstick all over her face, which she looks at admiringly feeling so beautiful.
