Back to School! School started so early this year, August 15th, but honestly I think we were all ready for it! Our summer was so fun and also everyone had started fighting a lot and it was time to go back to school! I realized this is the first year in A LOT of years that no one was starting a brand new school/situation between kids starting kindergarten/fulltime first grade/years with COVID precautions that were all kind of new and stressful situations. This year everyone just went back to the same school as the year before and it felt very calm and easy.
Chase started 8th grade at Fairfield. He was excited for some new classes- he's taking Spanish this year as well as a FACs elective (basically cooking) and is a peer tutor (spends one class period attending with a special needs kid to help them through the class). He's such a great kid and just really has taken the challenges of Jr. High in stride.
Hudson started 6th grade with Mrs. Reynolds. He was hoping for her, so he was stoked it worked out. Several of his friends are in the same class too!
Davis started 2nd grade with Mrs. Butterfield. He was initially disappointmented at not getting Mrs. Evans (who his big brothers had), expressing "I hope this doesn't ruin my whole life...I don't *think* it will..." and then later "So Mrs. Evans picked Chase and Hudson, but she didn't want me?" After I explained that teachers don't pick their own classes, and that his teacher was going to be awesome he warmed up to the idea. Mrs. Butterfield came out to meet the class on the first day of school with a bubble gun showering the class in bubbles and it was all over- he was on board! Plus, they have a class turtle- SPEEDY! He's loved 2nd grade so far!
Davis got to bring Speedy home for the weekend! He was stoked and spent the whole weekend doting on this beloved turtle.
Also- Davis came home from school one day absolutely over the moon excited because he finally has a loose tooth! At 7.5 years old he's basically the only kid his age who hadn't lost a tooth yet. It was the cause for much celebration!
Lila had her preschool orientation! She starts after Labor Day. She had this dress picked out to wear for a good month beforehand.
Davis, Will and Hudson have been making a movie. Many afternoons and evenings have been spent running around our various yards and houses shooting footage for this movie. I'll be interested to see if we ever see the finished product, but it's been darling to see it happen! Such creative kids!
Before Heidi had to head back to Boston she took the kids for one last Twisted Sugar date. They all loved having her around all summer and missed her so much when she left. She really spoils them! I miss her too!
Lila caught a little cold (that we then passed around the family). No one really loves a sick day quite like Lila. We leaned into it and snuggled and watched movies quite a bit.
Hudson started golf lessons! He's only had two so far but he's loving it!
Chase got braces! His mouth was pretty sore for a few days, but he's pretty excited to get his cute smile put back together after a summer of palate-expanding.
Davis started flag football and he is so excited about it! He wears his jersey all the time- even on non-practice days.
One sweet morning we all ended up eating breakfast out on our deck in the sunshine and cool morning air. The pandas joined us, of course.
One day I took the littles to ice cream after school. Lila chose the Kaysville creamery which is her favorite- so of course Davis broke down into tears (even though he really does like it) because he'd rather go to Culvers. I guess you can't win them all! (Davis ate all his ice cream and really had a great time).
And miss Lila started Ballet classes! She takes at Clytie Adams, which is where I took when I was her age! Her teacher is Miss Marianne and she likes to play "ballet" at home now. She shows us what she's learning like "open the window, close the window" and "sharpen the pencil" and "criss cross applesauce pepperoni pizza listen to your teacher!".
