I'll admit- I didn't go all out for Valentine's Day this year. Being 9 months pregnant has taken a lot out of me and I didn't even get our two decorations out until like a week before. But it ended up being a fun week, even if we didn't do all the festive things!
Our week was actually a blast because aunt Heidi was here! My mom flew her out a little early for the girls trip, since I couldn't go this year, so that we could spend some time together. To tell you the truth, I didn't even realize how much I needed it! I was feeling stressed and tired and emotionally a little too taxed and then Heidi rolled into town and made me laugh so much, did my hair and make up and toe nails, and just generally brought a lot of joy with her! It was the best couple of days! We ran errands and hung out around my house and even had a date night with our parents one night- and it was all so fun!
She made time on Wednesday afternoon to take the boys to twisted sugar for cookies and drinks. This is a little tradition of theirs and I tagged along this time. The boys all loved it. This trip Davis really took to Heidi- he loves to FaceTime with her and didn't require any warming up time. Any time he couldn't directly see her he'd say "where's heidi?"
This was the first year we've had to make a Valentine's box for school. I must say, I love how Chase's turned out! He had this idea a month in advance- drew DogMan all by himself, attached him to cardboard, spray painted the box and made the sign. Literally all I did was hot glued the stuff on. He was so proud of it and I was so proud of him. Arts and crafts aren't really his thing and it was fun to see him execute this little project! We went to Target one day and Heid wanted to get Valentines for all the little nieces and nephews. She bought Davis a new Lightning McQueen car (we've misplaced his other one). He was very thankful. It has hardly left his hand since.
I made eclairs! Completely from scratch. They turned out pretty good, but I already know what I should do a try differently next time. It only took me like 9 months to make them since Lindsay taught me last summer- so maybe I'll try again before it's been 9 more months. They were a fun little Valentine's treat for my boys!
This is just a random of Davis napping that week- but he's just so cute! Naptime snuggles are my favorite part of the day with this little guy.
My three little loves on Valentine's Day. I think I have a picture of them by this banner every year for the past like 5 years. I love these guys!
Once the kids were home from school (rave reviews about class parties and all the treats) we did pizza and movie night at home. Ben actually got home from work at a decent time, I made heart shaped pizzas and we watched Toy Story 4. It was such a darling movie- we hadn't seen it before- and it even held Davis's attention the whole time! Our chocolate fountain broke last year, so I just made up some chocolate fondue which Davis exclaimed "soup! Chocolate soup!" and we enjoyed fondue together (Chase wasn't feeling great at this point, so he sat out, but said it was okay because they had chocolate fondue at school during their class party).
It was a really simple Valentines Day, but kind of a really great one! We spent a lot of time with the people we love most- all in anticipation for our newest little Valentine to join us any day now!
